Characterisation of fatigue damage in asphalt mixtures using X-ray computed tomography

چکیده
The high-resolution X-ray CT was applied to investigate the fatigue damage evolution of asphalt mixtures. detailed Xray images in centre samples were used characterise cracking and air voids increase at different vertical deformations. Air void content surface area distribution before after loading also analysed. results show that main failure mode mixtures low temperature is debonding interface between aggregates mastic, which an adhesive failure. maximum change due often occurs near middle sample. Cracks observed around flat elongated on with insufficient fracture faces, demonstrating effects aggregate angularity shape cracking. microcracks develop continuously throughout entire process.

X-ray computed tomography.
X-ray computed tomography (CT), introduced into clinical practice in 1972, was the first of the modern slice-imaging modalities. To reconstruct images mathematically from measured data and to display and to archive them in digital form was a novelty then and is commonplace today. CT has shown a steady upward trend with respect to technology, performance and clinical use independent of predictio...
متن کاملEvaluation of Fatigue Properties of Asphalt Mixtures Containing Reclaimed Asphalt using Response Surface Method
This paper presents the effects of different amounts of reclaimed asphalt on fatigue life of asphalt mixtures. Central composite method was used to design of experiments based on response surface method (RSM). Binder type (Pen 60/70 and Pen 85/100), reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) content (25, 50 and 75%) and loading strain (150, 250 and 350 micro strain) were selected as independent variables...
متن کاملAn iterative method to estimate x-ray attenuation coefficients in computed tomography
Introduction: The basis of image formation in Computed Tomography (CT) lies in the x-ray linear attenuation coefficient of the scanned material. Compton scattering and photoelectric effect are the dominant interactions of the x-ray photons with the subject, in the range of diagnostic radiology. These two coefficients are important in tissue characterization by Dual-Energy CT (D...
متن کاملAssessment of X-Ray Crosstalk in a Computed Tomography Scanner with Small Detector Elements Using Monte Carlo Method
Introduction: Crosstalk is a leakage of X-ray or light produced in a matrix of X-ray detectors or array of photodiodes in one element to other elements affecting on image contrast and spatial resolution. In this study, we assessed X-ray crosstalk in a computed tomography (CT) scanner with small detector elements to estimate the effect of various parameters such as X-ray tube voltage, detector e...
